Inside GMA's Comprehensive Training Programme

At GMA, we understand the importance of staying up-to-date with safety protocols and procedures. That's why we've developed an online safety portal that provides our team members with access to a wealth of resources, including instructional videos and quizzes covering topics such as hazardous chemicals, safety data sheets, first aid, and personal protection equipment. This portal complements our in-person training sessions and ensures that our staff have the knowledge they need to mitigate risks and stay safe on the job.

Setting the foundation for success

From the moment a new team member joins GMA, we prioritise their safety and success. On their first day, employees undergo comprehensive training that covers Risk Assessments (RAs), Safe Systems of Work (SSOW), job-specific information, and are provided with the necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Our standard PPE includes toe-capped boots with penetration-resistant midsoles, gloves, hi-vis waistcoats, hi-vis jackets, and additional gear such as hard hats and eye protection as needed.

Hands-on training and mentorship

We believe that practical, hands-on experience is invaluable when it comes to learning the ropes. That's why warehouse staff undergo forklift familiarisation training and receive instructions on the correct procedures for battery charging and changing on their second day. They then shadow experienced members of our warehouse team for as long as necessary to learn site-specific tasks thoroughly. We encourage an environment where all staff, regardless of tenure, feel comfortable asking for further training if needed. Our motto is simple: Never attempt any work you haven't been properly trained for.

Ensuring safety on the road

Our commitment to safety extends beyond the warehouse floor to our drivers. Over a two-day period, drivers undergo a comprehensive induction process that includes an eye test, driver assessments, daily vehicle check assessments, knowledge assessments on tachographs and working time regulations, familiarity with VOSA and DFT regulations, training on securing cable drums and coils, tail lift and pump truck operation, FORS (Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme) training, and safe load securing practices.

A culture of continuous improvement

At GMA, we are always on the lookout for opportunities to further educate and train our staff. From day one, we instil in our team members the importance of safety and the understanding that they are our most valuable asset. We emphasise that their wellbeing is paramount, ensuring they return home safely to their loved ones at the end of each working day. We firmly believe that investing in our team's training and development not only improves safety but also fosters a culture of excellence and continuous improvement throughout our organisation.

At GMA Warehousing, safety is not just a priority—it's a way of life. Through comprehensive training initiatives, dedicated mentors, and a commitment to ongoing education, we empower our team members to succeed while prioritising their wellbeing every step of the way. Because when it comes to safety and excellence, there are no shortcuts.
